alaska mountain ultrarunning camp - day 1

yeehaw! let's run us a mountain!! so i woke up on day 1 at 3:45 and it was still very light out - kool! while sipping a coffee on the deck, we noticed 2 humpback whales playing in the water just in front of the cabin - very kool! after an amazing breakfast, geoff and carle were brilliant in the kitchen, we got our stuff together and prepared to leave. geoff had just finished telling us he hardly ever saw bears while on the trails, when we spotted one not 200yds from the cabin - not so kool!

we got to the start and geoff had arranged for a couple of local runners - brian and dan - to accompany us. here we are just about to begin the climb up mount juneau . . .

in all an amazing run! 4:43 for just over 12 miles and 5000' vertical. outstanding! check this video from day one taken by dan.

we went back to the cabin and had another fantastic meal put on by geoff and carle. then jason and i hung out on the rocks for a bit - perfect ending to a perfect day !!!!
