14.4 and just short of everest ...

for gawd sakes, my buddy syn HAS to stop making these amazing shirts!  my whole visa bill consists of purchases from afrobrutality sports ...

i met keith (coach panda) at my level one course a month ago and just had to get this!

friday was 14.4 - a 14:00 AMRAP chipper that involved rowing for 60 calories, 50 toes to bar, 40 wallballs, 30 power cleans and 20 muscle ups.  i was happy to get through the toes to bar - my forearms were fried!!  i also managed to get through the wallballs, despite getting no repped at least 8 times for not hitting the wall or not getting it high enough.  and then i busted thru 13 power cleans for a total score of 163.  i was happy with that, but prolly could have done better if i'd broken up the toes to bar.  oh well!

saturday i went into palgrave for a sweeet 90 minute stomp!  and yes, we'd had MORE fucking snow, but it was pretty regardless ...

sun peaked out right at the end ...

kool sky ...

i didn't really feel like training on sunday, but i couldn't justify just showing up and going for breakfast 2 weeks in a row.  so i went and threw a bit of weight around, did some handstand push-ups, and a few squats, and figured i was good!  we even dragged our favorite little asian out - raaaaaaaaaaaaaandy !  hay, wait a minute, now that i think of it, kathy just showed up for breakfast ...

and THIS is the reason jason p looks so tired - her name is erica and she's the first little addition to the puopolo family!  congrats to him and adele - she's beautiful!

after breakfast i did a shortie in palgrave.  little chilly but it was gorgeous!

well, i've gone and done it again - the emails went like this the other day between me and derrick ...

me:   "um, okay, so here's what i did ...  don't start yelling ...  i put myself on the waitlist for fatdog 100(120) but gave them the option of bumping me down to 70 ...
argh!  i HAD to commit to something and this kept coming to me."

D:   "...Hahaha….what took you so long??"  Just got your other email that you were almost ready to commit to a 70, and then…..BAM! 120 baby!  Only 5th on the waiting list. You’ll get into the 120 for sure."

me:  "whadoyya mean i'm only 5th on the waiting list???? where the fuck did you see that ???!!! fuck !!!!"

D:  "You’re in for sure!"

me:  "krap! you're lovin this, aren't you ???"

D:  "teehee……..yerp!"

me:  "you're lucky you live way over there, else i'd come and throw tires at your house"

D:   "Haha…truth is, I think you’re loving this too and is exactly what you need right now! You’ll be amazing!"

me:  "you know what, i've been sitting on the fence for awhile. i think i needed this. i need a purpose ...   thank you for your patience. now let the games begin ...
fek!"

so ya, come august, i'm hoping to be ready to try and run 120 miles through the mountains of british columbia!  and naturally i had to try and get my super duper mountain friend leslie to pace me.   this conversation went as follows ...

and finally, me and policeman dave decided to redo 14.4 on monday - him wanting to get thru the power cleans, and me just wanting to pace myself better and maybe get a few more reps.  when the chalk had settled and i fell on the floor, i had bettered my score by 8 for a grand total of 171!  and dave, well holy krap, he managed to squeak out the dirtiest muscle up EVER!  no matter though, it counted and he got an impressive 181 !  outstanding!!  thanks to everyone who screamed at us and kept us going!!

kathy is crushing it again this year, even with her whining about being out of shape and 30 pounds overweight!  she came through with a very impressive score of 186 and currently stands 3rd in the women's 40-44 age category in eastern canada!  i thought this outfit was quite appropriate ...

so one more workout and we're done.   and i can really focus on fatdog!  wahoo!!!  oh ya, does anybody have a tractor tire i can borrow ...

14.3 and king of the world (for 12 hours)

so i never should have said it could snow all it wanted in my last post, cuz we know what happened next.  a big dump of snow, insane winds, and a windchill of minus 30.  jeezuz!  it was back to the gawd damn dions for my run on thursday!

it was like i was starting all over again - making tracks and all ...

grrrrr !

i know, i know, make the best of it ...

a little out of sync, but the 'silver lining' of wednesday's nastiness was the most beautiful sunset - taken while running down the road from the palace just as the snow stopped ...

thursday they announced 14.3 for the open - finally - something i was good at!  deadlifts and box jumps or step-ups. it went like this ...

deadlifts started at 95lbs for 10 reps, and increased to 135lbs for 15, 155lbs for 20, 185lbs for 25, 205lbs for 30, with 15 box jumps or step-ups thrown in between each weight.   workout was an 8 minute AMRAP - so as many reps as possible in 8:00.  you had to record the time at the end of each set of box jumps in case of a tie breaker.  sara - who i want to be strong like when i grow up - went first!  she HATES deadlifts but managed a solid 6 reps at 185, for an overall total of 96!  outstanding!

my turn!  bring it on!  i chose step-ups - they go much faster and you don't get gassed!

the first few weights went really well - pretty much unbroken reps.  when i got to 185, i broke them into 5's, and then the 205's into singles.

i had done 70 reps by the time i got to 205, so it was getting hard!  haaaa!  check out the face!!

when the clock hit 8:00, i yelled a big yahoo!  i had done 8 reps at 205, for a grand total of 138!  i was shit-faced happy for sure!

awesome group shot!  everybody did amazing and even the lovely mrs. p and poopie pants made an appearance!

and in case nobody noticed, i was sporting my latest and koolest acquisition from afrobrutality sports - a syn martinez original honoring kevin ogar.

oh ya!

upon entering my score, i realized i was FIRST in the WORLD in the women 50-54 age category.  i immediately texted the mighty one and nagged him to confirm my score so it would show on the leaderboard.  it only lasted maybe 12 hours, but i wallowed in my moment of glory!

i was stiff as shit when i woke up saturday, but headed out onto the trails regardless.  i discovered the skate ski track in albion was great for running on - hard packed and hilly as krap!

cloudy but a nice temp ...

grass sighting !!!

little bit of open water ...

little bit more ...

and actually, once i got going, i felt great!  2+ hours went by in no time!

i did go into crossfit on sunday, but was just too stiff to do anything.  so i stretched a bit, counted reps for people, and then went for breakfast!  haaa!  when i got home, i dicked around for a couple hours, and then needing another run, i decided to give k2 and glenn haffy a try.  i hadn't been up there in ages, and i wasn't sure of trail conditions.  to my delight, they were pretty good.  especially thru glenn haffy.  someone had been thru in snowshoes and stomped down a nice solid path!

just LOOK at the color of that sky ...

seriously, how could i stay hateful of winter when it's so fekking pretty ...

making the best of it ...

happy st patrick's day !!

14.2 and grass sighting!!!

GRASS!  yes!!  i saw GRASS in palgrave on saturday!!!!

not a lot, but still an encouraging sign!

i put in almost 2:30 and it felt goood !   yeehaw!  'squirrel' ...

sunday was my rather feeble attempt at 14.2 - overhead squats - i can do them, but kinda slow - and chest to bar pull-ups - i can do them too, but even slower!  here's my boyfriend kane - hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii kane - doing his!

the aftermath - he's sooo cute !!

kool shot of me and kathy doing overheads!

grunt !

and chest to bars.  the first 10 went pretty well, but the second set sucked!  i only managed one ...

and as i was going thru albion later in the afternoon, i saw this sign and thought how appropriate it was ...

i had a good run - temp was nice and trails were packed down really well!

still lots of snow though ...

but holy krap - was it ever nice on tuesday!!!  i think the temp hit +10 !  i started out in albion with a fleece jacket but soon ditched it and ran in just shorts and a t-shirt!  check out the shit-eating grin!

what a day!  even after i finished running i just hung out in the forest for a half an hour, not wanting to leave the sunshine!!

when i finally, begrudgingly, got ready to go, i donned my new 'afrobrutality' hoodie - barbell bitches!!!  thanks syn - i fucking LOVE your stuff!

AND the kool stickers you threw in with my order ...

it can snow all it wants tomorrow - i had a good little fill today to hold me over for a bit.  and i saw this on facebook the other day and just had to steal it ...

i liked this one too ...
