14.3 and king of the world (for 12 hours)

so i never should have said it could snow all it wanted in my last post, cuz we know what happened next.  a big dump of snow, insane winds, and a windchill of minus 30.  jeezuz!  it was back to the gawd damn dions for my run on thursday!

it was like i was starting all over again - making tracks and all ...

grrrrr !

i know, i know, make the best of it ...

a little out of sync, but the 'silver lining' of wednesday's nastiness was the most beautiful sunset - taken while running down the road from the palace just as the snow stopped ...

thursday they announced 14.3 for the open - finally - something i was good at!  deadlifts and box jumps or step-ups. it went like this ...

deadlifts started at 95lbs for 10 reps, and increased to 135lbs for 15, 155lbs for 20, 185lbs for 25, 205lbs for 30, with 15 box jumps or step-ups thrown in between each weight.   workout was an 8 minute AMRAP - so as many reps as possible in 8:00.  you had to record the time at the end of each set of box jumps in case of a tie breaker.  sara - who i want to be strong like when i grow up - went first!  she HATES deadlifts but managed a solid 6 reps at 185, for an overall total of 96!  outstanding!

my turn!  bring it on!  i chose step-ups - they go much faster and you don't get gassed!

the first few weights went really well - pretty much unbroken reps.  when i got to 185, i broke them into 5's, and then the 205's into singles.

i had done 70 reps by the time i got to 205, so it was getting hard!  haaaa!  check out the face!!

when the clock hit 8:00, i yelled a big yahoo!  i had done 8 reps at 205, for a grand total of 138!  i was shit-faced happy for sure!

awesome group shot!  everybody did amazing and even the lovely mrs. p and poopie pants made an appearance!

and in case nobody noticed, i was sporting my latest and koolest acquisition from afrobrutality sports - a syn martinez original honoring kevin ogar.

oh ya!

upon entering my score, i realized i was FIRST in the WORLD in the women 50-54 age category.  i immediately texted the mighty one and nagged him to confirm my score so it would show on the leaderboard.  it only lasted maybe 12 hours, but i wallowed in my moment of glory!

i was stiff as shit when i woke up saturday, but headed out onto the trails regardless.  i discovered the skate ski track in albion was great for running on - hard packed and hilly as krap!

cloudy but a nice temp ...

grass sighting !!!

little bit of open water ...

little bit more ...

and actually, once i got going, i felt great!  2+ hours went by in no time!

i did go into crossfit on sunday, but was just too stiff to do anything.  so i stretched a bit, counted reps for people, and then went for breakfast!  haaa!  when i got home, i dicked around for a couple hours, and then needing another run, i decided to give k2 and glenn haffy a try.  i hadn't been up there in ages, and i wasn't sure of trail conditions.  to my delight, they were pretty good.  especially thru glenn haffy.  someone had been thru in snowshoes and stomped down a nice solid path!

just LOOK at the color of that sky ...

seriously, how could i stay hateful of winter when it's so fekking pretty ...

making the best of it ...

happy st patrick's day !!
