let's do it

so i'm not sure what possessed me, but i decided to go buy a real bra the other day. i mean, for the most part, i'm very satisfied with my 'walmart - 3 for $20 - sport cheapies. so i asked my friend sarah, who is quite endowed in the 'hooter department' and, whose fancy frillies i see hanging up on the poor rack in the gym occasionally, where she suggests i go. i mean, i once tried the 'la senza' thing with the glp and was totally overwhelmed. now SHE's a pro! before i even made it into the store, she had 3 shiny little shopping bags full of underpants! good grief! as for me, it was sensory overload ! there were panties of every size, shape and color you could imagine. i walked out without buying a thing and ultimately decided it was easier to just go commando. but i digress . . . miss sarah recommended this place over in kleinburg where the owner will actually help fit you! PERFECT ! i walked in the door, sporting my usual homeless person's attire, and 'dropped' sarah's name. now this lady, patty, was great! she asked what i wanted and then had a good laugh when i said 'something that lifted the girls up off my belly, but didn't make them stick straight out.' she measured me up and handed me a few to try on. i also told her my other requirement was comfort - i didn't want to feel the need to rip it off after 20 minutes. i strapped on the first one and looked at her for her opinion, to which she replied, 'wow, it sure makes you look taller.' hahaha! ohmygawd! hilarious! and true! with the girls up where they should be, my waist appeared at least 4" longer ! we went through about a dozen of them before settling on a couple that were very comfortable, and that didn't make me feel like the girls were sticking up so high that they were the first things people noticed! and so off i went, successful in my endeavor, with my own 'shiny little shopping bag' and the good intentions of actually wearing this thing . . .

friday night club was great as always. me and the beautiful lia went for our 1 rep max front squat. she's this little teenie thing and she managed 130lbs! holy crap! i got to 145lb before dropping it. had to get a shot including her before we left for 'sushi fest', as she wasn't able to go.

the lovely sonia had arranged for us to go to an 'all you can eat' sushi restaurant after class. i hadn't actually been to one of these places before, so i just let everybody else order for me. it was kinda fun, and the table was full of plates of strange looking rolled-up things, and pink slabs of fish, and orange crunchy things wrapped up in seaweed . . . i had no idea what i was eating, but it was a great night out regardless.

got up saturday morning feeling kinda puffy - must have been a bit of sodium in all that sushi. i had a couple of clients first thing, and then made my way to the gym for a session with adam - who was looking a little green. apparently, when i left the group last night, they were heading over to the bowling alley, with a bottle of tequilla. yikes! anyways, we did an AMRAP - as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes, of 5 burpees (blahh), 10 jumping squats and 15 kettle bell swings. AMRAPs suck, cuz you bust your balls for the designated time and get no rest! there was no competing with the youngsters today - elora and marsala kicked my ass! afterwards, we went for a run on the humber. a bit of snow had fallen, which made the trail nice and greasy. marsala won for most wipe-outs - 4 including a nice yard sale in the swamp by the windchimes!

it was great! and you could usually tell where elora was by her shrieks on the downhills! everybody did amazing and it was super to have some crossfitters out on the trail with me! here's marsala, me, elora and tony . . .

and tomorrow, i get to run for almost 3 hours ! can't wait ! thanks spaff !

1 month to christmas

oh boy, i've been bad at posting. nothing for almost 2 weeks. although it's probably not a big deal, as i think trailman's the only one who reads it . . .

here are a couple of pics from the old lady ride me and christine did on the rail trail a couple of sundays ago. made it to tottenham for coffee and snacks - naturally !

the week of november 15th saw my running hit almost 39 miles. doesn't sound like a lot, but it's the most it's been since my impromptu trip to colorado with les in august - and the unscheduled breakage of the wedding ring toe. AND no more fucking elliptical (sorry spaff).

good turnout once again for friday night club . . .

and saturday, what can i say. grabbed the new salomon pack and drove to the 7th line with the intention of running over to the 5th - another big test of the toe. just past airport road i met up with a couple of hikers, who, in their own words, were hopelessly lost ! doh! turns out it was their little blue mazda i had spotted by the tai chi center, and therefore, was able to point them in the right direction - 4km back. they were under the impression that the bruce trail 'circled around'. i informed them, that had they kept going, they would have ended up in tobermorey ! doh!
anyways, made it to the 5th AND managed all the steps behind the ski hill on the way back! yes! i've only done that once before! thankyou crossfit ! finished strong and put in 2:15 !

sunday i wasn't sure how the legs would feel, but i decided to do crossfit regardless. the good news was that evil jimmie was leading the class. the bad news was that he made us do 20 rounds of 5 deadlifts and 5 burpees, each minute on the minute. OH GREAT - that'll really ease me into my intended 90 minute run ! stoopid dora !

but hay, once i got out there and started running, i felt amazing! the 90 minutes flew by, and it was the best run i can remember in MONTHS ! sweet georgia brown - life is good !!

seize the day

so i got my training schedule for next week from spaff yesterday, and at the very end of it he writes:

''ps. mississippi mud pie from loblaws is VERY overrated. (thought you needed to know as it sounds like something you'd like)''

i don't know what he's talking about . . .

and check out these 2 pics of my former client and figure skater supreme miss pugsley - now performing with disney on ice ! can't WAIT to go see her when they come to toronto in march !!

went for an easy run on the humber friday with christine. she was worried about hunters again, so she dressed accordingly . . .

yup - ain't nobody going to mistake her for bambi . . .

and tgifnc at crossfit !! adam was in charge and had half of us rowing and doing 50 reps of various insane things, including burpees, while the other half was doing increasing reps of other insane things, including burpees. this was after establishing our max box jump height. sarah did fantastic, reaching 28", whereas i could barely make 26 without the risk of adding more scars to my shins! then super strong lisa came over and cleared 30" like it was nothing! good grief! fedon and luca were over 44" and i was just waiting for one of them to bust a nut ! haha! our first attempt at the 'pic on the rower' didn't work too well. great close-up of the lovely sonia though . . .

ahh, that's better! thanks adam . . .

christine joined me saturday for a 'long run'. we met at cooli's and headed over towards the 7th line. met up with the japanese hikers right at the top of the first switchback north of 9 and had a good laff at one of them carrying a 'bear bell'. yup - better watch out for grizzlies in mono guys! good grief! felt good to be out and the temp was divine. however, i can sure tell my legs haven't been doing much climbing lately - can you say lactic acid build-up ??? owwwwww! regardless, it was a great day and it was especially nice to be running with christine again. incidently, we did manage to get in 2 hours, but it just about killed us. check out this kool seat carved into a big old fallen beech tree . . .

and finally, i want to say 'seize the day'. life as we know it can change just like that, so don't wait - get off your ass and do whatever calls you.
i love you dave - my beautiful kindred running spirit - we will get through this.

great comment from super bod tony at crossfit the other night as i was getting out of the mazda. 'hay kendra, you actually own a car . . .' haha! good one - i guess he's used to seeing me ride in on the giant and then wobble back home after a nasty WOD.

after an absolutely fab run sunday - up k2, up and up the dingle, and up glen haffy - me and moose headed to barrie for a little shopping at sojourn sports. what a great store - kinda like a mini MEC. i had been wanting a salomon pack like leslie's ever since TRR, so i finally got my hands on one. AND, they had some pretty kool buffs for sale too, so naturally i had to get one of those. after all, one can never have too many buffs . . .

and did somebody say stickers . . .

tuesday was another beauty - started at humber station and made my way to the bottom of k2 before turning back. great shot from just below the gore road.

messin around by the big old maple tree . . .

today i did an easy 45min recovery run and then rode the giant into bolton. managed 90 pullups - without 'steve-ing' the hands - 60 burpees, 120 pushups, 150 squats, and then biked back home.

i should not be allowed on a bike . . .

first of all, check out the latest pics of my little red-headed nephew ben. did i mention i'll be heading out to kelowna to see him and my very most favorite sister for christmas this year!!! can't wait ! mfs is the 'christmas queen' and has already started planning the cookies ! oh, and you can see where he gets his good looks from . . .

put in a few more miles on the trail this week and the poor old toe seems to be holding up! not enough to go to ohio unfortunately, despite pleadings from the other pylons. had to send them out on their own into the great world beyond ! good luck guys! it's killin me not to go !

weather was chilly on friday, but still managed to run on the humber in shorts with christine. going to see how long i can hold out before donning the dreaded tights.

friday night club was well attended. me and sarah did power clean & jerks, while the rest of the guys did assorted lifts, squats and pullups.

and check out fedon - he has the best t-shirts AND I LOVE THIS HAT . . .

saturday started out great. went up to the gym to train little miss elizabeth. then over to the glp's for another session. after that, to crossfit where dillon had us practice our cleans and then do a bunch of wallballs and situps. i considered it a good class, especially since i managed to use the bar and NOT drop it on my foot ! once back at the treehouse, me and christine arranged to meet at albion for my scheduled 2 hours of biking. after just 15 minutes, i begged her to go ahead, as i could see it was killing her to try and ride as slow as me!!! i was fine for awhile, putzing around on the double track. then i foolishly decided to try a section of single track . . .

owwwww! stoopid mountain biking! where did that root come from and how did i manage to compress my ribs on it ??? i slowly got up and started WALKING out of the single track when christine came up behind me. 'whatcha doin?' OH FOR GAWD SAKES - what did you do to your leg?'

my leg . . . ACK !! i hadn't notice that - i was more concerned with my ribs ! FUCK ! "oh grammaw, maybe you should just go home and get on the trainer".

probably a good suggestion, but i finished off my time - slowly - and made my way back home. leg doesn't hurt too bad, and the throbbing ribs have subsided. i bet spaff is sorry he ever agreed to try and train me! and for tomorrow - i get to run for 1:40 - no more - i had to promise . . .

first flurries

so sunday i was lazy. i slept in until almost 8 - that's late for me - got up and drove into town for a coffee. finally got around to calling christine around noon to see if she felt like running. she too had been procrastinating big time and hadn't been out either. we met an hour later and headed onto the humber. because it was still october, pylon rules state we had to be in shorts. and being a little wary of hunters, christine donned her fancy 'i'm not going to get shot' fluorescent pylon toque - um, pylon rules don't allow toques until december, but at least she had the shorts on.

as for me, i was looking to get shot - could i have blended in any better . . .

and yes! it was snowing like a bastard! big puffy flakes that almost stuck to the ground! anyways, we had a pretty good run - putting in 90 minutes - longest run since i broke the toe. nowhere near what i'd need to get through ohio though - gonna have to stay home this time. sorry guys!

and today was just brilliant. did some intervals on the dreaded elliptical - boo - hiss - blahh - and then did a short run through palgrave. after a big hunk of baked salmon and some raspberries, me and miss lilian sat down to enjoy the sunshine high up in the treehouse.

this weather rocks !
