i was seriously on the fence for this years' crossfit games open. i just wasn't experiencing the excitement i was last year at this time. but once i saw the first workout and was satisfied i could do it, i threw my name in the hat. 14.1 was a 10:00 AMRAP of 30 double unders ...
and 15 power snatches with 55lbs ...
with kathy judging and counting reps, i managed to finish with 5 full rounds and 13 dubs for a total score of 238. it was a gasser but i liked it. and of course i had to sport an appropriate t-shirt ...
i guess i didn't work hard enough friday however, as i was able to pull off a relatively easy 2:45 in palgrave on saturday! trails were in pretty good shape and there was minimal ankle rolling.
i came across this guy on skis! LOVE his hat!
the sun never came out, but it was mild! it MIGHT have almost got out of the negatives ...
goofing around ...
?????
i had been meaning to take the crossfit level one trainer course for awhile now, and finally got around to it a couple of weekends ago. we did it in milton and the trainers there were amazing. in order to become a trainer, one had to participate the entire weekend, and then write a multiple guess test at the end of it all. i'm HORRIBLE at studying - bad bad attention span - squirrel - so i was a little, okay, a lot worried. it took almost a fucking week to get results, but when i did, i was some big assed relieved! wahoo!
nice shirt!
and, not happy with her score the first time through 14.1, my buddy kathy decided to redo it on sunday. gee, she ONLY got 345 reps. i know, nobody BUT those doing the open will understand, but trust me, it's amazing! good enough for 44th in the WORLD in women's 40-44 age category after the first workout. not bad considering the fact she had back surgery 6 months ago. oh, and she WASN'T going to compete this year - stoopid bitch!!
i spent some quality time in the forest this week - my motto - making the best of it! this is from thursday ...
palgrave ...
the fat bikes had been out so even the single track made for some sweet running!
again, just making the best of it!
and SERIOUSLY, i could soooooooooo get used to living in the palace...
i leave you with yet another adorable shot of the redhead ...
LOVE this kid !!!!!

open prep throwdown
i was asked by mary c if i wanted to be her partner in the open prep throwdown in mississauga last week. 'only if you drive', i said, 'it's south of 7.' and with a very strange look she agreed to the terms. so braving the stoopid snowstorm on thursday night, we made our way to the mighty one's gym for a 7:00 start. grabbing fig as our judge, we got ready for the first wod - 10:00 to find our 10 rep max deadlift. mary had previously reached 105, a little nervous to go higher because of a back injury. she stepped it up considerably though and pr'd with 135lbs!i had done 195 before, and was quite happy to reach 205. with under a minute to go, kathy convinced me to try 210. SUCCESS! a new 10 rep max! thanks kathy!
the second wod was pretty gross! an 8:00 AMRAP with the two of us doing rounds of 6 power cleans, 12 burpees over bar (barf) and 12 wallballs. again, we recruited fig as our judge!
the final wod had us alternating between a 300m row, 15 thrusters (barf again) and kettlebells swings for 6:00. this one wasn't too bad, except for the thrusters of course, and i would have liked it to be longer ...
stoopid rowing!
and why is it almost every pic i have of me and the mighty one, he's yelling at me?! stoopid thrusters!!
a job well done rookie! great having you as a partner!
and here are a few pics i stole from the cfm website. honored to be in the company of such amazing ladies - sarah, tania and kathy!

thanks everyone - that was fun!
despite winter being relentless this year, i am trying to make the best of it. my 'speed' work has been temporarily put on hold - trails are okay but in no condition to run 'fast', and i refuse to run on the road - sign of the devil - sorry D ! and can you blame me - the forest is soooo pretty ...
always sporting this hat cuz 'dions' rock ...
stoopid winter!
AND i'm still living at the palace. let's see - which tv shall i watch today?

have a nice day !
so the weather got a bit better this week, allowing for half tights! this is palgrave on thursday ...
tuesday morning at the gym i saw my amazing buddy jose trying these, so i figured i'd give it a go. no injuries were incurred ...
the mighty one refuses to turn the heat on at cfb, so we're all resorting to ghetto tactics to stay warm. toddy says it looks like i just walked in off the street and started squatting ...
and as of wednesday night i still didn't have water at the farm. i was contemplating what to do when i received a call from momma nardella all the way from arizona. it went kinda like this. 'what the fuck are you still doing at that place? you have no heat and no water (i did actually have heat) and i won't have my favorite daughter (i'm not really one of hers, but she still calls me her favorite) living like that! pack up some stuff and get over to the house NOW!!!' and knowing better than to argue with mum, i did as i was told. so now i'm 'slumming' it with sarah: heated floors, 2 dishwashers, a spa, a hot tub, heat by just flipping a switch, a sauna, lots of warm water - shit, i may never leave!
that's just the tub ...
saturday was a beauty of a day! i headed into palgrave for a couple of hours. trails were fairly well packed down so i didn't need the dions.
bliss ...
sunday mass with father jimmy was INSANE this week! there were so many people he had to scrap the planned workout and make up one that would accommodate all of us. it was NASTY! when the last rep was counted, i had done 100 front squats at 95lbs! OUTSTANDING! i really love these types of workouts - leaving with the feeling that you won't walk for 2 days!! thanks fucker!!!!
and just because i felt like it, i rounded out the weekend with an hour plod through deep snow on the humber valley trail.
and i leave you with this ...
